From 17 January, there will be more stops "on request"

From 17 January, Rīgas satiksme will increase the number of stops where passengers can board and disembark on request. The new system will be introduced on 193 additional stops on 40 bus and 14 trolleybus routes. Along with the changes on certain bus and trolleybus routes, schedules will be adjusted, reducing travel time between stops.

By expanding the existing network of stops on request, such stops will now also be included on trolleybus routes 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 18, 22, and 25, as well as bus route 8, where there were previously no stops on request. In total, the new system will be introduced at 193 stops on 54 routes.

The new list of stops on request can be viewed here: www.rigassatiksme.lv/jaunumi/pieturapecpieprasījuma

At stops on request, the vehicle will only stop if the passenger is visible to the driver while waiting for transport or presses the door opening button when disembarking. To board, it is not necessary to raise your hand or signal to the driver in any special way – it is sufficient to be at the stop in a place clearly visible to the driver. This allows the driver to notice passengers in good time and pull up at the stop. During the dark hours of the day, it is recommended to be particularly visible, for example, by using a safety reflector or a flashlight. If a passenger wishes to disembark, it is sufficient to press the door opening button in the passenger cabin in a timely manner.

The new bus stops will also have a special sign placed at the stop on request – a raised hand icon on a green background. The signs are located on the bus stop post, above the schedules. At stops where there are no such signs, the driving procedure will remain unchanged.

Information about stops on request is also available in transport schedules, on public transport screens next to route information, on the website, and is played in audio announcements in the passenger cabin.

To date, stops on request have already been introduced at more than 700 stops on 46 bus and 10 trolleybus routes, and this system has proven to be understandable and convenient for both passengers and drivers.
